School dance

Zora howard built a time machine
Back to 6th grade dances
To the wide expanse
Girls here.                    Boys here
An the walk across
Seeing the girl who makes your heart flutter
You walk over
See her friend
You know the one who holds the wall
Ask her if she wants to dance
She looks at your heart flutter.
An says yes
You go to the middle an dance
As you do more make the trek
Risking rejection
If they don’t return the affection.
Slowly and surely the floor fills
Until the person you desire
Steals you away.
Those days when teachers broke you apart for being “to close”
You enjoyed all you could
Until the slow jams
Where close was all you could be
Gripping tight
Remembering every detail of the night
