Hyperbole

Slip back in time
Drift with me
Be 14
At Friendly’s.
Eat dinner with mom
An her new man
Talking about your day at school
About a word you’ve learned
Hyperbole- to tell tall tales or exaggerate.

Now call someone who fishes
A hyperbolist -a teller of tall tales
Add misunderstanding
Sprinkle in ignorance
Result
A grown man coming across a table
Trying to choke you
Knocking over sodas
Angry at a perceived slight
Lack of knowledge combined with pride left me exposed.

Fast forward a few hours
To a forced  apology
Look at the boy
Listen to his promise of never again.

Listen to never again
Will you touch me
To never again
Will I be afraid
Never again will a hyperbole
Make me afraid
Never again
